Another drug seizure occurred in El Salvador, three Ecuadorians were arrested for drug trafficking on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, confirmed by the country’s president, Nayib Bukele, via his social networks.
“Only eleven days after another major drug seizure, our national navy intercepted another boat 805 nautical miles (1491 kilometers) southwest of El Cordoncillo Mouth, Estero de Jaltepeque,” detailed the Salvadoran president. The boat was carrying three Ecuadorian nationals. In addition to apprehending the three people, the authorities confiscated around a ton of cocaine, valued at around $25 million, which was being transported on the vessel.
On 24 May 2024, another drug seizure took place in El Salvador, also involving Ecuadorians.. On this occasion, the Navy intercepted another vessel 882 nautical miles southwest of El Cordoncillo Mouth, Estero de Jaltepeque, El Salvador. Two Ecuadorian crew members were arrested on this vessel. Some 1.4 tons of cocaine, valued at around $35 million, were seized on this occasion.
Bukele noted that during the May 24 operation, one of the detainees “died after firing on our marines and being neutralized in self-defense.”
