Colombian and Ecuadorian naval forces, along with the Colombian Air Force, seized a narco submarine off the Pacific coast of Colombia laden with approximately 4.5 tons of cocaine. Initially on a search-and-rescue mission for two missing fishermen, officials stumbled upon the underwater vessel dubbed the “narco sub.”
The 50-foot-long semi-submersible was intercepted near the Colombian-Ecuadorian border, where sailors from the Colombian Navy boarded and discovered 205 packages of cocaine of various sizes and shapes. Four individuals piloting the submarine were promptly arrested.
The Colombian navy estimates the street value of the seized cocaine at over $137 million, thwarting the entry of these drugs into trafficking networks and preventing the distribution of over 10 million doses worldwide.
This is the 3rd semi-submersible intercepted in this area since the beginning of the year (see BQSM of January 23, 2024).
