The three seafarers of the Grebe Bulker were freed on May 21. Their release was the result of joint efforts. Thus, the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development’s shipping agency and the Georgian consulate in the Republic of South Africa cooperated.

They had been abducted on May 2. The Grebe Bulker was then in the Gulf of Guinea, anchored in the port of Owendo in Gabon.

One of the officers was Russian, the other two Georgian nationals. The three of them are currently undergoing medical examination in Nigeria.

The Georgian Maritime Agency thanks the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the Consulates General of Georgia in South Africa, Ethiopia, New York State, and Singapore, as well as the ship-owning company and all parties involved.
