India and Malaysia Strengthen Maritime Security

India and Malaysia held the first Security Dialogue in New Delhi, focusing on maritime security, counter-terrorism, and cooperation in critical minerals.

The two nations held the inaugural India-Malaysia Security Dialogue on Tuesday, co-chaired by India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Malaysia’s Director General of the National Security Council, Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Bin Zainal Abidin.

This dialogue reflects the growing importance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India in August 2024. Both sides reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation in security and defense while exchanging views on global and regional security dynamics.

Strengthened Ties Through Maritime and Security Cooperation

The dialogue highlighted the pivotal role of maritime security in strengthening regional stability. Both countries emphasized deepening bilateral cooperation in the maritime domain, a critical area given the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea.

The discussions also touched on counter-terrorism and deradicalization, signaling shared priorities in addressing global security challenges. Cybersecurity and defense industries were also key areas where enhanced collaboration was explored

This growing partnership underscores the commitment of India and Malaysia to jointly address evolving regional challenges while leveraging their strengths in critical sectors.
