On December 15, the Liberian-flagged container ship Al JASRAH was hit on its port side by a drone or missile fired from Houti controlled territory while in transit from Piraeus (Greece) to Singapore. It was south of the Red Sea, about 20 Nq north-east of Mocha (Yemen). A fire broke out and a container fell into the water as a result of the attack.
The vessel was able to continue on its way. At the same time, the container ship MSC ALANYA (flag of Liberia), en route to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), was approached in the same area by a skiff and ordered to divert to Yemen. The vessel continued on its way without difficulty.
On the same day, the container ship MSC PALATIUM III (Liberian flag) was hit by a missile which caused a fire on board, while in transit from Mombasa to Jeddah. The fire was brought under control, and the vessel continued on its way.
These two attacks, claimed by the Houthi rebels as part of their support for Hamas against Israel, are the 12th and 13th recorded in the area in the last month.
