A cooperation agreement has been signed between the Interregional Maritime Safety Institute (ISMI) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and Expertise France to combat illicit trafficking by sea.
This agreement has the objective of strengthening the cooperation between the two organisations in this field and, in particular, of supporting the services responsible for the collection, analysis and processing of information relating to the ciblage of conteneurs or the fouille of navires.
This partnership is part of the SEACOP project, financed by the European Union, which aims to combat trafficking in drugs, arms, migrants and other criminal activities in the waters of Latin America, the Caribbean and West Africa.
Created in 2014, Expertise France is the French agency for the design and implementation of international technical cooperation projects. It comes under the dual authority of the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Economy, Finance, Industry and Digital Security.
The Interregional Maritime Safety Institute (ISMI) in Abidjan was set up in 2015 to assist West African countries. It provides training to meet the needs of the states of the Gulf of Guinea in the field of maritime safety and security and state action at sea.
