To combat illegal fishing, Indonesia is investing 1.14 trillion rupiah ($73.4 million) to strengthen surveillance of illegal fishing in border areas.
This measure aims to eradicate illegal fishing by foreign vessels in the Strait of Malacca, the North Natuna Sea and the Sulawesi Sea.
Other measures have been taken for local fishing vessels, which are required to report their catches to ensure sustainable fisheries management.
A budget has also been allocated to monitor the coastline and small islands, the use of maritime space and illegal land reclamation, as well as destructive fishing.
It monitors underwater cable communication systems, submerged ship cargoes and marine pollution.
Indonesia ‘s Ministry of Marine and Fisheries has been allocated Rp 7.04 trillion in the 2024 budget and a supplementary budget of Rp 57.1 billion.
