Acidification of the Arctic Ocean, a Growing Phenomenon

A study published on September 29 in the journal Science by a team of Chinese and American researchers shows that the Arctic Ocean is acidifying much faster than the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Antarctic and sub-Antarctic basins.
While this acidification of the Arctic endangers marine life, including coral reefs. The continued melting sea ice, precipitated by the use of fossil fuels, is expected to further intensify the phenomenon in the coming decades.
In August 2022, a study revealed that the Arctic Ocean had warmed up nearly four times faster than the global average over the past forty-three years, a phenomenon known as “Arctic amplification.”
