On September 30, the Vietnamese Coast Guard intervened south of Ho Chi Minh City to rescue the crew of the cargo ship WU ZHOU 8 flying the Chinese flag.
21 of its crew members had fallen ill, probably due to food poisoning. 10 sailors were declared dead on board while 2 others died during the medical evacuation.
The last 9 crew members are in critical condition and are being treated in a hospital.
