Athens has reported the destruction of two UAVs in the Red Sea, a first for the Greek frigate deployed in the Gulf of Aden.
In the early hours of Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the frigate HYDRA, operating within the framework of Operation EUNAVFORASPIDES and providing escort to a merchant vessel, engaged two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in line with established rules of engagement.
“The frigate continues its operational duties without interruption,” stated a spokesperson in response to the event. Greece, a prominent player in global maritime shipping, is committed to addressing any significant threats to maritime transportation.
Two days prior, the frigate HYDRA had a discreet visit from Greek Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, as reported by Greek public television ERT. He was accompanied by Chief of the General Staff of National Defense, Dimitrios Khoupis, and Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Dimitrios Eleftherios Kataras.
