The Second Conference Aims to Strengthen and Improve IORIS Governance

The second IORIS Governance Conference (IORIS Steering Committee – ISC) convened in Colombo from March 5th to 7th. Representing 56 agencies and authorities such as naval, coast guard, customs, police, maritime affairs, fisheries ministries, and ATALANTA, among others, this gathering focused on the progress, development projects, and governance methodology related to the deployment of the IORIS information exchange platform. Participants discussed the platform’s implementation at national or regional levels, including its inter-agency usage. Notably, the inaugural conference took place in May 2023 in Bali, where Indonesia co-chaired the committee. The upcoming edition is slated for Bangladesh within a year, with the country’s navy set to assume co-chairmanship.

CRIMARIO II project

The CRIMARIO II project (Critical Maritime Routes Indo-Pacific), funded by the European Commission under the supervision of the Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), aims to bolster maritime safety and security across the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. This initiative supports 43 coastal countries, including France, in developing maritime situational awareness. A key aspect of this project involves ensuring the voluntary adoption and deployment of the IORIS tool. Among the French entities already connected to the platform or planning to do so are ALINDIEN, the MICA Center, ALPACI (including its AEM office), CZM New Caledonia (AEM office), CZM South Indian Ocean (AEM office), the French Customs Regional Directorate in New Caledonia, and CROSS Reunion.
