2 Tons of Hashish Seized by the French Navy

Last week, as part of the EUNAVFOR operation, the FS Surcouf (F711) seized more than 2 tons of hashish during an inspection of a stateless dhow in the Arabian Sea. This seizure represents a value of around 15 million euros, which will not go to criminal networks.
France is fully committed to the fight against drug trafficking in the Indian Ocean region. As a nation with overseas territories in the region, France recognises the serious threats that drug trafficking poses to the security, stability and socio-economic development of the region.
This is why it remains strongly committed to Operation ATALANTE, which enables the European Union to combat drug trafficking in the Indian Ocean, in accordance with the mandate given to EUNAVFOR by its Member States.
