What’s happening with Fight against piracy in GoG?

Piracy is reducing considerably in GoG especially with the help of UN operations, according to the Assistant Secretary-General for Africa, Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee :
“More naval patrols by coastal states and increased deployment of vessels by international partners have been a deterrent, adding that two convictions of piracy and robbery offenders in Nigeria and Togo have also counted.”
All present in the GoG zone, European navies join forces to improve the fight against piracy and strengthen the maritime safety. Among others countries like UK or Danemark, France has deployed the CORYMBE operation with almost permanently two vessels in the area since 1990.
This cooperation has made it possible to lower the threat of pirates attacks but more efforts are still needed according to the UN.
