Search Efforts Continue After Tragic Capsizing
Authorities have confirmed a third fatality in the Jacksonville boating accident that occurred on Friday evening in the St. Johns River. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) reported that a boat carrying eight individuals capsized around 8 p.m. that night. While four passengers were rescued alive, one person was pronounced dead on the scene.
By Sunday, a second body was recovered, and on Monday, officials confirmed the discovery of a third victim, a child. One child remains missing as search operations persist.
Multi-Agency Response and Ongoing Search
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is leading the extensive search effort, working alongside the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida and U.S. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville. Search operations include marine and dive teams utilizing SONAR technology, with aerial support provided by JSO’s air unit. Authorities have urged the public to stay clear of the search area to ensure divers and rescue teams can operate without obstruction.
The investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
