On March 31, as part of a fisheries policing operation, a patrol boat from the French Navy’s Antilles-Guyane region sequentially inspected two Brazilian fishing vessels, the “PRESENT DE DEUS 1” and the “SALMO 91 II,” engaged in illegal fishing activities in French territorial waters off the coast of Guyane.
Due to the crew’s refusal to comply with the intervention team’s orders to stop and their threatening behavior, the military had to resort to firing warning shots with non-lethal ammunition to board the vessels. Having already received several citations for similar offenses, the Directorate General of Territories and the Sea (DGTM) ordered the redirection of the “SALMO 91 II” to the port of Larivot, where it is expected to arrive today.
