The Tanker Success 9 found after 6 days

Spotted on April 16, the oil tanker Success 9 was found after 6 days of search. All 20 crew members, safe and sound, were located off the coast of Cote d’Ivoire. Those who have taken part into search and rescue were : the MDAT-GOG team in collaboration with regional security forces and the French Navy, which has sent an aircraft based in Dakar.
The Coast Guard and the Maritime administrations of Ivory Coast, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria also participated actively.
The commercial vessel Monjasa Sprinter spotted the tanker. The Ivorian Navy deployed the Contre-Amiral Fadika, a patrol vessel trained with the French Navy as part of Operation Corymbe. The Contre-Amiral Fadika rescued the crew of the Success 9.
The IMO Secretary General, Kitack Lim expressed concern about the recent incidents in the Gulf of Guinea. 6 sailors were abducted aboard the Monjasa Reformer two weeks prior the Success 9 incident. Negotiations are still on going to free them.
